From a Human's Perspective
There was never any doubt that we were not the first. Evidence of the precursor races was not long in coming; broken husks of long dead cities and ancient derelicts standing silent testament to their vanished creators, kept vigil as humanity broached the stars. But for all signs of the life that once was, there were remarkably few living races to share the expanse, at least until Eden.
For three centuries humanity had marched without opposition from earth. Alone, humanity turned on itself and fought. Then a mysterious signal, elusive and definitively nonhuman was picked up. Part in panic and fear and part out of curiosity, humanity abandoned their fratricide to investigate.
The signal lead humanity to an unexplored system, were a single world orbited a star nearing the end of its life. Explores found a virgin world, untouched, harboring a long abandoned citadel. What its purpose was not discernable and its discovery was immediately overshadowed. Humanity had not been the only one to detect the emissions of the ancient outpost. No less than three other species arrived within hours of humanity. After being alone for so long, humanity had finally met their neighbors.
Using the language of once passed civilians, which had been commonly discovered, the four empires met each other. Eden, the named given to the world by humanity, became a diplomatic hub.
